The Frederick Loewe Theater project
entailed creating a state-of-the-art experimental
black box theater in an existing Neo-Gothic assembly
hall. The design maintained historic detailing while
inserting a contrasting modern kit of parts into the
space. These pieces included an audio and lighting
control room, concession booth, and curved wall that
are configured as discreet elements to define the
lobby space. Industrial light fixtures and stained
plywood panels are surface mounted to the walls of
the theater. The space is painted midnight blue to
give the black box theater a more dramatic feel when
the lights are up. Theater seating is arranged on
telescoping movable planks allowing for three seating
configurations.
