The Schwartz Building of the
NYU Kriser Dental Center was originally built in 1974
as a utilitarian classroom building. In a time of
increased competition for both students and patients,
the Dean made a commitment to improve the image of
the institution which included a major renovation
of the Dental Center’s lobby and the complete
reconstruction of the school’s public clinics.
The renovation transformed the lobby by reconfiguring
the entire ground floor of the building to create
a space which is pleasing, calm, and clearly and efficiently
directs large numbers of staff, students, and patients
to the many functions located throughout the Dental
Center.
