The concept we developed with
our client, a contemporary furniture retailer, was
to create an enigmatic, glowing box that behaves not
so much as an advertisement for the contents, but
more as a sort of urban sculpture. To that end, the
storefront is composed of translucent glass, punctuated
by discreet openings of clear glass, which frame views
of selected furniture in a unique and more focused
way.
Internally, the store is arranged as a series of platforms
which step down as the sidewalk slopes down from 57th
to 56th Street. The ceiling is a continuous plane angled
to reflect this exterior grade change. The effect is
a simple and dramatic, and draws the eye through the
block-long expanse of the store.
